Symptom: UPS “online” lamp healthy; load still blinked.
Mechanism: Maintenance 후 manual/auto bypass engaged 채로; monitoring은 inverter ready, path는 아님.
Plant effect: UPS가 지우려고 산 그 dip.
First fix: Bypass state MoC 하; bypass > shift window면 alarm.

Bypass는 mode지 personality quirk가 아니다.
CASCADE β — Autonomy fiction
Symptom: Runtime brochure 15분; event는 90초 chaos 후 drop.
Mechanism: Aged batteries, wrong load estimate, overdue test discharge.
Plant effect: Orderly shutdown script never started; scrap mid-recipe.
First fix: Discharge tests dated; autonomy은 island actual measured kW에 tag—nameplate fantasy 아님.
CASCADE γ — Half-island design
Symptom: Tool power held; conveyors/abatement died; interlocks fired anyway.
Mechanism: Critical path를 tools only; utilities·exhaust raw mains.
Plant effect: “Protected” tools still abort.
First fix: Tool을 legal하게 돌리는 boring dependent 포함하도록 island redraw.
CASCADE δ — Brain dark, muscles live
Symptom: Motors hummed; PLCs rebooted; recipes zombie 또는 dirty freeze.
Mechanism: Controls가 command하는 drive와 다른 panel 전원.
Plant effect: Ugliest cascade—supervision 없는 motion.
First fix: Controls + HMI + network switch가 govern하는 island와 함께 ride.

Dependent가 off-island면 tool은 protected가 아니다.
Cascade multiplier — Harmonics·generator transfer
Diesel·utility reclose transfer timing 무시 UPS island는 double hit invent. Coordination notes는 battery test와 같은 binder.
Ownership one-liner
Facilities는 iron·batteries. Controls는 orderly stop logic. Production은 scrap. Process-island UPS owner만 documented dip test 후 island “qualified” 선언.
인접 울타리
Industrial BESS peak shaving은 facility storage economics. AI rack liquid cooling은 IT thermal. Regenerative VFDs는 multi-axis recovery. Power-quality harmonics는 plant-wide distortion. 어느 것도 UPS bypass discipline·process-island boundary honesty를 소유하지 않는다. Campus BESS fund하고 tool ride-through 기대하지 마라.
